“Dear Szandi,
A well-rested mum is writing to you today. 🙂 Our son Ábel, who is almost 14 months old, woke only once last night and then slept until morning! 🥳 I can hardly believe it. 😂
We followed your advice: instead of sleeping in a narrow cot, he now sleeps on a mattress, I don’t cover him too warmly, and we try to start our mornings a little earlier. Taken together, these changes really seem to be working.
Of course, I’m not getting too confident — I’m sure we’ll still have difficult nights — but thank you again for your help. We’re very grateful. ☺️”
“Listen to more of what Kalmár Szandi has to say! For months I blamed myself and thought I was a bad mother because my baby couldn’t even sleep properly. I tried pick-up-put-down, tried stopping feeding to sleep, tried everything except leaving him to cry.
At one point I managed to get him to sleep in his cot for 20 minutes during the day. Afterwards he spent the rest of the day stumbling around, screaming and completely beside himself.
Now he sleeps on me while we rock in the chair — two and a half hours in the late morning and another hour and a half in the afternoon. He wakes up rested, and it is so much better for both him and me. While he sleeps, I study for my driving theory test on my tablet, read or watch TV.”
“I just thought I’d check in. For the past three weeks I’ve been trying to plan our days the way we discussed. The routine we talked about is working well: he sleeps for about an hour around 9–10 in the morning, another hour around 1–2, and then about 30 minutes before his bath at around 5. He usually falls asleep for the night between 7 and 8.
Of course, sometimes he doesn’t manage the full hour and can be more tired afterwards, but overall he is so much more settled and cheerful. Sometimes he even asks to go to sleep at around those times by burying his face in my neck — and that feels like a huge step forward, because before this every daytime nap was a battle.
We also got him a bigger bed that I can fit into as well. He now has his daytime naps there rather than in our bed, because during the day he can only sleep while breastfeeding or if I lie beside him. I think it has helped him to have all his sleep in his own bed.
We still have difficult nights, and I think some of that may be related to his tummy and starting solids. But I’m getting so much more sleep as well now that I can lie down beside him.
Thank you so much for all the helpful advice! 🙂”
“I never thought I’d be getting back to you this quickly, but I can hardly believe what we’re experiencing.
We’ve been following the routine we discussed for two days now, and my little girl has adapted to it incredibly easily. On the first day she slept for 55 minutes in the morning and 35 minutes in the afternoon, without me having to wake her or try to resettle her. 😍 But what feels even more unbelievable is that we’ve now had two nights when she woke only twice.
Obviously, we’re right at the beginning and I don’t want to speak too soon, but I’m already so grateful. 😍 Last night she did need an hour to get back to sleep after waking at four, but after half an hour I was able to hand over to her dad. She wasn’t struggling or crying; she just found it harder to fall back asleep.
She is also really settled during the day and getting her to sleep hasn’t been difficult. I can see that three hours awake in the morning is probably right on the edge of being too short for her, but for now it’s still working.”
“We’ve already made some changes based on your advice, and the waking every two hours has stopped. 🙂 This morning he even managed to stay in bed until six!
I’m so grateful for your advice. And most importantly, I feel that I’ve started to connect so much more deeply with my little boy. 🥰🙏🏻”
“Perhaps the best way I can describe it is that you give us back our sense of competence and confidence as parents — through the videos, here in the Facebook group, and then the consultations complement all of that beautifully.
So, thank you.”
“Beni is my first baby, and he was three months old when I started watching the course. I found it incredibly useful — it felt as though all the pieces finally started to come together. 🙂
There were things my baby had been doing that I only understood afterwards, and other things that were happening right then where I was able to find an answer that helped us.
Like every mum, I was constantly searching the internet for solutions to our problems. Because of the pandemic, we had very few opportunities to meet other mothers and share experiences, which was something I personally really missed.
While I was watching the videos, I felt as though Szandi and Ági were ‘holding my hand’. 🙂”
“You’ve already helped us so much simply by telling me not to force a 7 p.m. bedtime. Yesterday I put my four-month-old daughter to bed at 8:30 instead, and we had a much better night! 🤗❤️
What also helped was not making the room completely dark. I think she didn’t feel the same pressure to go to sleep. 🙂”
“If I had to give my feedback in one sentence: among all the self-proclaimed experts out there, you are the one I trust and whose advice I follow. 🙂
And in a few more sentences: I love that you remain human and down-to-earth, that you consider things from the mother’s point of view as well, and that you explain things in an everyday, relatable way, using real examples.
Thank you!”
“Just wanted to give you an update. The transition went really well. Zsombi now sleeps from around 12:30/1:00 until 2:00 during the day, and from 9:00 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. at night.
This is so much more manageable for us. Thank you. 🙂”
