The Baby Sleep Handbook
Real Science. Real Life. Zero Cry-It-Out.
Baby sleep advice can make you feel as though there is one correct way your baby should sleep — and that if it isn’t happening, you need to fix something.
The Baby Sleep Handbook starts somewhere else: with understanding what is actually happening before deciding what, if anything, needs to change.
It is an evidence-based, practical guide to sleep from birth to three years, bringing together current research, nearly two decades of work with families, and the reality of what days and nights with a baby actually look like.
We will talk about normal baby sleep, night waking, naps, feeding to sleep, sleep associations, contact sleep, bedsharing, settling, sleep training and much more — without turning averages into rules or assuming that every family needs the same solution.
You will find research, sleep ranges and practical ideas throughout the book, but not another set of rules your baby has to follow. The aim is to help you understand the baby in front of you, make sense of the evidence, and find ways of sleeping and caring for your child that are safe, responsive and workable for your family.
